How to stop the highlights, white, or overexposed parts of a photograph from blinking whenever you preview (playback) the image in your LCD screen

Nikon cameras have a useful setting called the highlights mode. When your camera is in this mode and you preview a photograph you have taken, the brightest portions of the image, as well as area's that are overexposed, are shown with a flashing border.

This can be useful if you want to see how much of your photograph is overexposed. However many new photographers accidentally turn this option on, then find it frustrating when they don't know how to switch it off again.

How to turn off or stop the highlight flashing borders when you preview a photograph?

When you are previewing a photograph with a digital SLR camera, you can press the camera's up and down buttons to scroll through several information screens. The information screen you last view, is then the default for all images previewed there after.

If you see the flashing or blinking borders when you preview every photo, chances are, the highlight mode was the last information screen you looked at. To turn this off, press the up or down buttons (near the OK button) until you see information below the photograph and not layered on top of it. This will stop the flashing borders appearing on every image preview.
