Photographing portraits with dedicated macro lens

by Tanya Puntti

Use a dedicated macro lens for portraits

Macro lenses aren’t just for flowers and insects. A dedicated macro lens can also be your best portrait lens. Take this wedding portrait below for example. It was photographed with a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens. A fast F/2.8 was perfect for indoor lighting.

Thanks I’ll try this. I’ve never thought of using a macro lens for portraits. I’d just always presumed it was only for macro shots. I’ll give it a go with the grandkids next time they are around. Thanks again for the tip.

Wow, who’d have thought a lens capable of 1:1 closeup photography, would also take such a great wedding portrait. I too had never thought of using a macro for portraiture.
Hi Dave and Josh,
You can see examples of other portraits taken with a dedicated macro lens over at the Canon EF 100mm macro lens Flickr group: http://www.flickr.com/search/groups/?q=portrait&w=37879325%40N00&m=pool
Kind Regards.
Tanya.
